In this class we will cover the basic left and right cables and their easy variations. We will also learn how to read basic charts and how to measure gauge over the cabled pattern. As our main project will start knitting socks with a simple cable pattern on the front. The pattern for the Hygge Season socks is included in the class.

Required knowledge: basic knit and purl stitches, understanding the right and wrong side of knitting, knitting flat and in the round

Materials needed:

• small skeins of yarn for swatching. The yarns should be preferably DK or worsted weight, for example merino or other smooth fibers with good stitch definition in light, unicolor colorway so you can easily see your stitches

•  needles suitable for the yarn, for example 3 mm or 3.5 mm needles. I suggest using 40 cm cables, but you can choose DPNs or longer cables, such as you are comfortable making swatches with

• a cable needle or an extra DPN in the same size or slightly smaller

• 300m of dk weight sock yarn and 3 mm needles (DPNs or cable suitable for Magic Loop) for the sock project 

  Homework

  Prepare the cuff for the socks using DK weight sock yarn and 3 mm needles. Cast on 56 sts and work k2, p2 ribbing in the round for 6.5 cm.
